A suspected fraudster,Gbenga Ogunmefun, has been caught by his victims at the Ijagemo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.The man, Gbenga Ogunmefun, posed as a herbalist, an estate agent and phone repairer to defraud at least ten people of various amounts of money. According to sources, Gbenga Ogunmefun, posed as a herbalist and collected the sum of N30,000 from a woman called Morufa, a housewife, after being unable to heal her he adamantly refused to refund her money. Ogunmefun who lives in Bada compound, Baba Fatia’s house, Ijagemo, allegedly collected phones and cash from a man called Aro, a lady called Vivian and another woman known as Iya Falda.
It was also gathered that the suspect claimed to have come from Odeda in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, posed as an estate agent and collected the sum of N20,000 form a Mr. Joseph Sunday but he never provided him with an accommodation nor refunded his money.
Gbenga admitted duping people of various amounts of money after he was nabbed by his victims and dragged before High Chief Hakeem Babatunde Balogun. He however promised to refund the money he swindled from them.
After an initial deposit of N10,000, the supect signed an undertaking to pay N7,000 monthtly instalment until he had paid the money he extorted from his victims.
His wife, Mrs. Reginje Ogunmefun, signed an undertaking as a witness which was dated 29 July, 2013, in which the suspect promised to return all the phones in his custody to their various owners.
